This recipe was submitted by our local neighbor and customer, Jean Robinson. Jean says this makes a fantastic sandwich bread, or a delicious slice of toast (with a bit of FRF raw honey spread on it, of course!)
Ingredients:
- 3 cups warm water
- 2 Tbsp active dry yeast
- ⅓ cup melted honey
- 4 cups white flour
- 3 Tbsp melted butter
- ⅓ cup melted honey
- 1 ½ tsp salt
- 2 ½ cups whole wheat flour
- 1 cup ground flaxseed
- 1 cup toasted sunflower seeds
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, mix warm water, yeast and ⅓ cup melted honey. Add 4 cups white flour and stir to combine. Let set for 30 minutes, or until big and bubbly.
- Mix into yeast mixture: 3 tablespoons melted butter, ⅓ cup honey, and salt. Mix together whole wheat flour, ground flaxseed and sunflower seeds. Add to above mixture. Flour a flat surface and knead until not real sticky – just pulling away from the counter, but still sticky to the touch. You may have to add another cup of flour to achieve this. Turn into a greased bowl, turning one so that dough is coated with oil. Cover with a dishtowel and let rise in a warm place until doubled.
- Punch down, and divide into 3 loaves (or 8 mini loaves). Place in greased loaf pan, brush surface with butter or oil. Allow to rise until the dough has topped the pans by one inch.
- Bake at 350 degrees F for 25-30 minutes. Do not overbake. If you do not want a crispy crust, brush the tops of baked loaves with melted butter.
- Enjoy warm or toasted with a dab of Fresh Roots Farm raw honey!
